Senior Building Safety Manager
Salary: £56,271 - £69,990
JNC benefit package £2,724 pa

As the Senior Building Safety Manager position you will be responsible for ensuring that Southwark as the Principal Accountable Person is complying with the duties of the Building Safety Act 2022, Fire Safety Act 2021, and statutory compliance, ensuring there is a systemic approach for managing building safety for our high-rise buildings. You will be responsible for overseeing the development of Building Safety Cases for our high-rise buildings including inspection programmes and assessing /commissioning relevant information to keep the Building Safety Case relevant. You will be responsible for internal and external stakeholder engagement including liaising with the Building Safety Regulator and our Residents.

About You:

This position requires extensive knowledge of pertinent Building Safety Legislation (Building Safety Bill, Fire Safety Act, Duty of Care) and a strong track record in ensuring regulatory compliance. Essential qualifications include a degree-level professional qualification, coupled with a minimum Level 4 Diploma in a building safety-related field, or equivalent experience. Membership or working towards membership with a recognised building safety-related organisation is also expected (e.g. CIBSE, RICS, CIOB, IFE).

The ideal candidate should demonstrate strategic foresight, adept asset management skills, and effective leadership in advancing comprehensive building safety initiatives. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are crucial for engaging stakeholders and supporting outreach efforts. Flexibility for travel, physical access requirements, and adherence to lone worker policies are also necessary.

As the Building Safety Manager you will be responsible, working with the Senior Building Safety Manager, to ensure that Southwark as the Principal Accountable Person is complying with the duties of the Building Safety Act 2022, Fire Safety Act 2021, and statutory compliance, ensuring there is a systemic approach for managing building safety for our high-rise buildings.

This role will also coordinate access to quality information related to the development and maintenance of the Building Safety Case and Safety Case Reports, Building Assurance Certificates for high-rise buildings, and support training for stakeholders.

About You:

We are looking for an experienced professional with a strong background in building safety compliance, a deep understanding of the Building Safety Act, Fire Safety Act, and Duty of Care, and practical experience in managing building safety.

A degree or diploma in construction or fire safety is required, and membership in professional organisations like RICS, IFE, IFSM, IOSH, IIRSM, or CQI is preferred. The role requires problem-solving skills, the ability to influence others positively, and excellent communication skills.
